Advantages: Good piano playing, quite good lyrics occasionally
Disadvantages: Vocals a bit irritating, songs do nothing for me
I've already stated my opinion for this artist on her first album but it was the music on her most recent album "Far" that I first had the chance to listen to. She all seems very over-rated in my view and fits in to the sole artist with a piano and a slightly jazzy voice category only with a quirky Russian New York accent thrown in to the mix.
Overall, I don't particularly dig this sound which I find wishy washy and in some cases a bit morosely self-indulgent, it's the kind of music that people happily wile away the day listening to but it's got no get up and go about it whatsoever.
There are two things that draw me to the artist and that's her fairly good piano playing and the occasional witty or at least slightly different lyric. It was always going to be difficult for me to warm to the album as the whole Norah Jonesesque jazzy girl whining on about lost love and the like doesn't really do it for me. Unfortunately I'm not really taken with her high pitch glottal voice either which often sounds like the climax of a donkey bray.
I'm sure this album will please many, particularly if the donkey girl piano genre (read: easy listening) is one you like but it's not for me, in fact.. it puts the wind up me!
