The song which follows, 'Meet the G that Killed Me' borders on the controversial, with the subject matter seemingly being homophobia; nevertheless, at 45 seconds, it acts as a mere interlude and fails to have a lasting effect on the album. 'Pollywanacracka' is, stylistically, the most unusual track on the album from PE. With a compelling direction and a different vocalist, it simply doesn't feel like a traditional PE song. Fear Of A Black Planet - Public Enemy: Public Enemy deliver again with a ruthless attack on America ... (1469 words)

'Fear of a Black Planet' is the third album by the Long Island hip-hop outfit Public Enemy, released two years after the sublime record 'It takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back'. With the most insightful lyrics of their first three albums, astute use of music sampling and the trademark sound you expect from Public Enemy, this is another hit from the hip-hop legends. A great instrumental slowly winds into the main body of the album, with 'Contract on the World Love Jam' setting the mood perfectly with a measured tempo, perfect scratching from DJ-extraordinaire Terminator X and a balanced use of samples which offer a preview of the album to come. The ...  Read the complete review

An early 1990 release, "Fear Of A Black Planet" came as the third album from the legendary Long Island, New York Hip Hop group Public Enemy. Coming a couple of years after the record that gained them the most attention, here we find that Chuck D, Flava Flav, Terminator-X and the crew come to deliver more intense, politically-charged, sample-rich material that went on to be named as another classic for them. 1. "Contract On The World Love Jam" (Intro) 2. "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" After an introduction which gives you a chance to prepare for the 'bass in your face' that you know you're about to face when ...  Read the complete review

One of the essential non gangsta rap albums of the early nineties. A thought provoking attack on the state of america at that time, which has evidently changed little. Nobody is safe from PE from radio stations to the police , to hollywood, to the welfare state. The album will appeal to all hip hop fans, with it's positive attitude "If we stand together we can be strong" without resorting to bashing whites, and by education we can all get along. ...  Read the complete review

Classic of an era... (150 words)

This is the 1990 album from Public Enemy that was one of their most successful. The album includes absolutely classic singles such as 911 is a Joke, and Fight the Power. The album is dated these days and the general sound is the rap style of the earlys 90's late 80's. The album does have some musical quality, something that alot of albums at the same kind of time as this were missing! Burn Hollywood Burn is a good track, but the best on the album is Brothers Gonna Work It Out (which shares its name with a Chemical Brothers track, but not the same!) which has a great guitar track on it, with a good vocal. It is an old album so I would ...  Read the complete review
