Advantages: Shows why Britney is popular.
Disadvantages: Not for everyone.
I don't think I really have a favourite Britney album, although I love Britney and Circus. I thought Blackout was my favourite album, but when I listened to In The Zone it made me feel unsure. She's often praised for overcoming some strong mental breakdowns as well as being a great entertainer, but is often criticized for the use of vocal editors and lip syncing in performances. She often gets compared to every female artist around.
She's also a trend setter, if Britney goes on an R&B route, then for sure others will follow. Other artists followed her music trends as if she was Jesus Christ. I think people were hoping that she wouldn't go for the club and electronic style for this album because it will make other people follow. I know there's some people who are sick of electronic abuse in chart music.
Sadly for those people, Femme Fatele is a dance record with influences from dupstep, techno and trance. That means that there will more of this electronic music to come. On the other hand it's a consistent album with a variety of electronic styles but doesn't do much outside of electronic genres. Those expecting it to sound like other albums from Britney might be disapointed. It's clearly obvious that it's clubs that are the album's target audience and it will please that audience well. This isn't always a good thing though because Britney has millions of fans and not all of them will be a fan of club music so they may feel a bit cold with this record.
Britney has been very enthusastic and the record highlights her passion for club music which has been recongised by many of her peers. Some state that she's like a child in a sweet shop in the studio. I think it's mainly how she treats her fans and peers is one of the main reasons why she's still very successful.
The album opens with a bang with Dance Until The World Ends. I'm personally not too keen on it that much, but I do like the remixed version which included Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj. I wish they included that remix on the album as a bonus track or something because it sounds really good and Nicki gives it a fresh personality and the chorus complimented Ke$ha's style well and I think it's because Ke$ha wrote the song. It's very $leazy indeed.
When I was in New York I heard Hold It Against Me a lot of times on the public radios. I didn't quite get it the first few times I heard it but I think it's a pretty unique song that does what it's meant to do: Hype us. It has a lot of build up that goes well with the dupstep influences.
My favourite song of the album is Criminal. The way the mama is adressed reminds me of some of Bob Barley music. I think it stands out because I think it shows a nice concept of someone in love with a bad boy. It was chosen as a single by fans and I voted for it as a single too because it sounds really organic and fresh sounding. It caused some contraversy because some people believed it was glamarourising violence.
Another song that I really loved from the album is Up n Down because I think it's very catchy and fun. It's something I can see on people's ipod and dancing to it in the club or at home when no one is around. I also think the song is very climatic which makes me more attracted to it.
Thoughout the album the confident vibe continues with the other tracks including collaborations with Sari with (Drop Dead) Beautiful and Will.I.Am with the Big Fat Bass. I do think at times they go over the top with the auto tune and I don't think it was really needed. One of my favourite lyrics of this song is "I have nine lives like a kitty cat," and the way they sing it is just amusing.
When I listen to this album it makes me feel energised because the music is so thunderous and has a strong club atmosphere. If this sounds like a record you like or if you've liked Britney's music before, than I think you would like this album. I liked this album, although I think it could have been a bit better, but at the same time I like it because I think it's an adorable album. I would reccomend the deluxe version because I think the bonus tracks are awesome. It may not be her best, but for me it's one of her most experimental albums to date.
Summary: Britney's 7th album.
