Advantages: A few good songs

Disadvantages: To many poor songs

I have been a fan of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for a few years now. Some of their songs are fantastic. But have never bought one of their albums. So recently I got myself a copy of their debut, Fever to tell came out back in 2003. Fronted by the wonderful Karen O, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a kind of electric punk band. Quite unusual sound so I was not sure what to expect. So here is what I think of the album, track by track:

1. Rich - Explosive start to the album. Big sounds, lots of screechy vocals from Karen, not a bad song, but nothing special. 7/10

2. Date With The Night - I think this was their first single. It's a short blast very catchy glam rock. A good strong song, with some stunning vocals. 8/10

3. Man - Starts with some talking. Then the words 'I gotta man who makes me wanna kill' repeat over and over. Not much to this song really. 6/10

4. Tick - A very short song that again seems to just lack any really purpose. 6/10

5. Black Tongue - Quite a nasty little song. Offensive lyrics in the choris and not that great a sound either. 5/10

6. Pin - Excellent. A song that really sticks in your head, if you recognise any off the album, this will be the one. Great rhythm great beat, very good little song. 9/10

7. Cold Light - More of the same, nothing to exciting really. Lyrics nothing special again. 6/10

8. No No No - Nice drum beat to start the song. Then it just goes into that same sound that every song seems to have. 6/10

9. Maps - Good song. The accoustic version of this is quite stunning, the original lacks the power of that, but is still a very good song. Lyrically its aweful but the vocals are just excellent. 9/10

10. Y Control - Again a return to medicore grunge. Nothing to say other than that. 6/10

11. Modern Romance - Finally something a little different! Slower song shows the band do have something else to offer. Still not a great song, but a nice change. 7/10

12. Yeah! New York - Lacks anything special. Poor finish to a poor album really. 6/10

So overall as you may have guessed, I was pretty disapointed with this album. It just all sounds the same. There are a few songs on here which I enjoy, but the majority are just not good enough. Think maybe some of there later albums maybe better, but unless they do something special don't think I will be buying them.

Overall rating 6/10

Summary: Not worth buying
