... in mint condition. This review isn't going down that route. In the opinion of this reviewer Snow Patrol, or any of of their other incarnations, struggled for a breakthrough because their music wasn't strong enough. Generally Gary's vocals weren't commanding enough, the lyrics not powerful and the music itself not good enough go capture the imagination. Some bands explode into life from the start and fizzle out a bit later on (Oasis), others mature like a fine wine - Snow Patrol. Experience is the making of some and...more

Premium Review Final Straw - Snow Patrol: Snow Patrol's Final Straw (938 words)
by - written on 21/01/08 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

Snow Patrol have been around since 1994, beginning life under the name of 'Shrug', later changing their name to 'Polar Bear' before finally becoming Snow Patrol due to the name 'Polar Bear' also being used by the side project band of the bassist from Jane's Addiction. It was not until 2003 that the band had their first real taste of success with their track 'Run' reaching the Top 5 in the UK chart. This was their first ever Top 40 single and marked the start of something special, with the band now having had nine Top 40 singles including 'Run'. The band have undergone relatively few line-up changes throughout the years, and in fact the only person thus far to have left ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review A Natural Anthem (1876 words)

By the time Final Straw was being recorded, Snow Patrol were fed up. After releasing two albums that had been met with a general feeling of 'nobody cares' by critics and the public alike, they were on the verge of splitting up. Although loved by their fanbase, and popular within musical circles, they decided that if Final Straw failed then that would be it; Snow Patrol would split up and be no more. Lead singer Gary Lightbody, guitarists Nathan Connolly and Mark McClelland, and drummer Jonny Quinn gathered together for what could be their last recording session ever, and went for broke. Acknowledged as a deliberate attempt to appeal to the masses, the album was released ...  Read the complete review

This makes the sixth review on DooYoo on this album. What can I possibly have to say that hasn't already been said, and probably far better ? I'm no good at all that technical description stuff - can't tell a bass guitar note from a drum machine. So the answer is quite possibly, I can add nothing. However, it hasn't deterred me from wanting to write a review on it. Quite simply, this album is one of the best I have heard for years so I really wanted to put pen to paper and share it with you. ~ BAND BACKGROUND ~ The band was formed back in 1994, by two young students from Northern Ireland studying at Dundee University - Gary Lightbody (vocals and guitar) ...  Read the complete review

Snow Patrol Brought this album out back in 2004. Since then many of the songs on have gone on to become real anthems. This is a beautiful album with some cystal clear moments that set the world alight. Think it would definately go down in my top 10 list, am a huge fan of Snow Patrol. So thought I would go through each song and let you know why I think this album is so good! So.... 1. How to be dead - Great opening song. Beautiful opening that sets the tone for the album. The lyrics whilst not anything special are very strong and tell a good story. Great start. 8/10 2. Wow - Slighlty more rocky, a good lilttle riff kicks in and the song ...  Read the complete review

Snow Patrol: Final Straw Released: 2003 on Polydor Records I wanted to write a review of the band itself, but as there isn't any reviews possible for the band itself i have wrote this review of the band and there third album 'Final Straw'. Snow Patrol are an alternitive rock band that hail from Northern Ireland/Scotland. The band formed in 1994 going by the name Shrug, by members Gary Lightbody and Mark Mcclelland while they were studying at the University of Dundee and played gigs at the Uni and local bars and pubs. In late 1995 they changed their name to Polarbear but had to change this as it was being used by another artist, ...  Read the complete review
