Snow Patrol, what a fantastic band. For some reason I thought they were American whe I first heard of them, however when I realised they were from Northern Ireland, it quite surprised me. Snow Patrol are made up of five band members, Gary Lightbody, John Quinn, Nathan Connolly, Paul Wilson and Tom Simpson, and are based in Glasgow, Scotland now.
I hadn't heard of Snow Patrol until I heard Run, one of the biggest selling singles that they have ever done and also a single on the Final Straw album, the third album that they had released. THis particular album is the album that bought them the success and was released in the UK in 2003 and later in America in 2004. Following the success of the single Run, they have acquired a succession of hits and another successful album to follow, with the hit single CHasing Cars, which was one of the most played songs on the radio during the year it was released and still continues to be heard on a regular basis.
There are many bands within the Indie Rock genre, many which all sound the same and don't really stand out amongst the competition, this is something that Snow Patrol actually has. The vocals of Gary Lightbody are unique, he has a very soft voice, whicj is powerful in its own right
All the songs on the album are fantastic, the album I think is flawless, I couldn't fault it at all. Its different to the rest within the genre which makes it more likeable and easy to listen to. The variety of songs is good and each has its own unique stamp on it and labelled Snow Patrol at the end of the day. Its an album that you can listen to and without wondering who it is, you know by the vocals that it Snow Patrol. I would put them in the same sort of league as Sterophonics, a great band, that had there own way of putting there music across.
