Finally Woken - Jem

Finally Woken by Jem really is a beautiful album and I wanted to get it ever since when I first heard the hit single "Just a ride" played on the radio. When buying the album I hoped that the style of music would be very similar to this and I was very pleased with it overall. The album was released in 2004 and contains 11 well produced tracks. I bought this album for £12 in Virgin but you can now get it for just over £5 from Amazon which really is a good deal. I know that you're all quite keen on your Duffy records, but in no way does the Demi-Dusty match up to the pop craftsmanship of fellow Welshwoman Jemma Griffiths, who goes by the name of Jem. On her first album Finally Woken she not only co-writes all the songs but produces the record too. Jem's music is primarily laid back white girl funk, with a fizzy pop sensibility. And I'm talking about proper pop here, melt-the-throat stuff which puts a kick in your step. ~~Jem - Finally woken~~ Jem is a Welsh singer who has had a bit more success in America, and as a soundtrack singer (films and TV, mostly American) than she has as a solo artist. It is really hard to describe her style/genre as it is really quite varied. It is a bit happy electronic but at times sounds a bit like Japanese pop. After hearing Jem's first song, "they", i was instantly hooked on her unique sound and got her album as fast as i could. While her follow up singles did not do as well as her first song, which reached number 6 in the uk, I think they didn't do aswell because she released the worst songs on her album! Anyway, I'll now review each track: 1. They - The first song i heard of jem. Its about how we listen to "them", although we don't even know who "they" are.
