The triumphal return of Brett Hoffman makes Malevolent Creation's sixth album a call-back to the glory days, albeit in a slightly less satisfying way that feels much more like a re-tread than a continuation. Blessed with an impressive quantity of tracks that mostly follow the same fast and furious death metal style, there are at least a couple of attempts at experimentation in the form of the longer 'Fracture' and 'Day of Lamentation,' the first being a rather dull imitation of Black Sabbathesque doom metal, and the latter a surprisingly effective melodic song with acoustic sections.
