Advantages: Interesting lighter finale.

Disadvantages: Same old.

The triumphal return of Brett Hoffman makes Malevolent Creation's sixth album a call-back to the glory days, albeit in a slightly less satisfying way that feels much more like a re-tread than a continuation.

Blessed with an impressive quantity of tracks that mostly follow the same fast and furious death metal style, there are at least a couple of attempts at experimentation in the form of the longer 'Fracture' and 'Day of Lamentation,' the first being a rather dull imitation of Black Sabbathesque doom metal, and the latter a surprisingly effective melodic song with acoustic sections. Who would have thought that Malevolent Creation had a softer side?

Outside of these commendable deviations, this is essentially the same old music and subject matter, but handled by professionals at the top of their game, if lacking a little in creativity when compared to bands such as Death and the contemporary Swedish death metal scene.

Summary: Malevolent Creation's sixth album (1998).

Would be good to see a tracklist, and maybe a bit more about the history of the artists?
