... bands do. This is a truely great album, but probably something of an aquired taste. You're sure to love it or hate it. I first heard of heard from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and after hearing a few tracks had to get the album. I wasn't disappointed - this is one of the few truely exciting albums out there. If I had to pick tracks to recommend, I'd say "Always Your Way", "Ode to the Red Queen" and "Cemented Shoes" probably give the best indication of the depth and breadth of their...more

Allow me if you will, to introduce you to something a bit different, yet something any rock music fan out there will appreciate. The band - My Vitriol. The album - "Finelines"; their debut album released in 2001 on Epic Records. From London, this alternative/grunge/psychedelic rock quartet faded off the scene almost as quickly as they burst onto it. Lavished with praise by the likes of Steve Lamacq, appearing at festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and T in the Park at the turn of the century, a decent music career laid in wait...unfortunately after the release they drifted off the musical radar for a very long ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review FINElines (2834 words)

My Vitriol are the latest in the long line of the saviours of music. Hailed as everything from the new Nirvana to goodness knows what else, lets look at the important things first – are they any good? Quite simply – yes. It’s hard to define exactly what genre they fall into, they have a harder edge than most of your alternative type bands, but they’re not metal and certainly not nu-metal. There’s quite a lot of technology behind the sound as well, too much for it to be classical rock, and not enough shoe gazing for it to be typically indie. For their debut album, they’ve put the emphasis squarely on the music. It’s ...  Read the complete review

Finelines - My Vitriol: Fine Is Definately The Word!... (586 words)

First of all, I don't usually write reviews of this length but there are occasions in your musical experiences where landmarks are reached and you just can't keep silent. You just want to share your feelings. Of the hundreds of artists I've ever listened to, some of them pretty good too, only Hole's 'Live Through This' and Smashing Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream' have attained such musical landmarks in my life. Fine Lines is the third! For me, what distinguishes a great artist from a good artist are when you get those 3 or 4 songs on an average length album which take your breath away" i.e. they make you feel ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review the British Nirvana? (367 words)

Rating:

'Finelines' is an assured debut from the new British band My Vitriol, an effective indie/rock/grunge fusion which, on this album's basis, marks them out as names to watch in the future. The fact that they've toured with Ash and the Manic Street Preachers gives a good idea as to the sort of crowd they're wooing, but they're probably a bit heavier and more grunge influenced than either of these two (and they're infinitely better than the Manics!) That's not to say that the album's not accessible, when they stick to effective pop/grunge combination the tunes are there in evidence for all to see - especially worth noting are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Finelines - My Vitriol: The Gentle Art Of Evoking (the past) (623 words)

Their name put me off for a while. I had imagined leather-clad hairies shouting from the top of their lungs over a sprawl of loud and aimless guitars motions. This image couldn't have been further from the truth however. My Vitriol have a clear agenda, harmonious vocals with clever, sometimes crashing guitar accompaniments. At times 'Finelines' has a dubious attitude and sound befitting an album released 10 years ago. The band are undoubtedly a great prospect but listening to 'Finelines' you can't help feeling that it has all been done before. Then again, doesn't most music sound like it was unveiled elsewhere? When My ...  Read the complete review

The best songs on one album Not many people remember them

Every track tells a story, fantastic lyrics. She is very much underrated.

11 superb tracks, a good solid debut The last track is over 8 minutes long!!!(But Thats Not Really a Disadvantage)

The Rack - Asphyx
A different take on death metal, from the genre's classic period. Thrash sections don't incorporate as well, and poor production is sometimes an issue.

Shooting At The Moon - Kevin Ayers
Arthur Brown style strangeness works well. Extensive improvisational jams are rubbish.

Regeneration - Ascension Theory
Less grandiose space metal for the faint-hearted. No character of its own.

Occasus - Amenta
Talented industrial death metal. Too mechanized and inhuman.

November - Azure Ray
Pleasant background music. Nothing much to it.

Lost In Space: Vol. 1 - Tobias Sammet's Avantasia
Tobias Sammet still has a great voice, and fans of power ballads will likely find something to enjoy Lack of power metal, and what is present isn't very good.

Deleted Scenes From The Transition Hospital - Axis Of Perdition
Effective and unique atmosphere, with a nicely depressive metal performance coming almost as a bonus Long-winded and difficult to listen to, in numerous respects.

Contaminated - Atrocity
Skilled grindcore with satisfying death metal elements. Songs were previously available in a more definitive form.

Beyond Good And Evil - Atma
Consistent and hypnotic psychedelic trance. Disappointingly repetitive, without much variation as promised.

Agitation - Am I Blood
For undiscerning thrash fans. Testament-lite, ten years too late.
