First Contact - Roger Sanchez

Y'know how it is. Every so often an album will come out which you know is an absolute classic before even listening to the thing. This 'every so often' happened to come around at the end of July this year, with the release of Roger Sanchez's debut album "First Contact". No, no, no. Roger Sanchez is in fact not Junior Sanchez's father. Nor is he Ali G or Armand Van Helden. This top-quality album from veteran American house DJ Roger Sanchez has been largely overlooked by the British pop-orientated record buying public - no surprises there - but it's absolutely fantastic, and ranks as one of the best house albums of the last few years in my opinion, alongside albums by Armand Van Helden ('2 Future 4 U') and Basement Jaxx. Unsurprisingly much of the attention has been focused on the surprisingly-massive 'Another Chance' single, and it's fair to say that this is probably the stand-out track here, sounding even more magnificant in its full seven-minute guise.
