... working on songs as he would have when he was a Beatle, writing them and getting them on tape in quick succession. He has a little help from Jeff Lynne of ELO and also Ringo Starr who appears on acouple of tracks, most notably, the stand out track of the album 'Beautiful night', the catchiest song on the album and one of the best songs he has written, featuring some lovely orchestration from George Martin and classic Ringo drumming. What really comes across in this album is that Macca was having a lot of fun making it. Ja...more

Premium Review Flaming Pie - Paul McCartney: Macca's On Top Form (141 words)
by - written on 22/07/00 (Very useful, 26 readings)
Rating:

This album shows Paul McCartney producing songs of high quality and contains a large number of great tracks that will be classed as great for a long time to come. The generally feel good factor that McCartney is able to give to all his songs is apparent in the tracks of this album and each track is produced in a differing style to the rest, so each one has its own individual advantages. I can honestly say that there is not a bad track on this album and anyone who is a fan should not miss it. My paticular favourites include The World Tonight, Heaven On A Sunday, Souvenir and Beutiful Night. Even if you are not paticularly a fan, be sure to check out this ...  Read the complete review

Just when you thought he was finished (89 words)

Rating:

After a decade of dwindling sales, Macca returns with a fantastic album that is both reflective, intelligent and extremely catchy. Based primarily on an acoustic feel, Flaming Pie contains collaborations with Jeff Lynne of ELO, Steve Earle and Ringo Starr, and is worthy of a nomination for the best Nineties album. Written primarily about Linda, the songs are made even more poigniant by the fact that she died shortly after. "Calico Skies" is one of the greatest love songs ever written. Buy it, you'll love it. ...  Read the complete review

Well there isn't a lot to say about this album except it is absolutely fantastic!!!!!! If you are thinking of buying it then do. It is a really excellent album, it is one of my favourites. All of the songs are classically mcCartney. With a guest feature of RINGO STAR in two of the songs this album just kicks ass. IO have been listening to it for three years straight now and it is totally fab!!!! Buy it, if you buy any album this year it must be this one. ...  Read the complete review

Released in 1997 after a fairly quiet few years by his standards this was a triumphant return to form. To say it was his best album since some of his 1970s material would be no understatement. After working with The Beatles again for the Anthology project, Macca was spurred on again and began working on songs as he would have when he was a Beatle, writing them and getting them on tape in quick succession. He has a little help from Jeff Lynne of ELO and also Ringo Starr who appears on acouple of tracks, most notably, the stand out track of the album 'Beautiful night', the catchiest song on the album and one of the best songs he has written, featuring some lovely ...  Read the complete review
