Now I was not sure whether I would believe all the hype surrounding Fleet Foxes. They were getting so much media attention, it always makes me a little sceptical of whether I will like their music. Maybe it is the indie in me, always wanting to like a band before everyone else, who knows! Now when I decided to give them a try and get the album I was not left disappointed. At first listen, I was still not entirely swayed and this is definitely a grower of an album. But after a few initial listens, I really love the songs. For me it reminds me a bit (but only a bit) of Grandaddy. "Ragged Wood" seems like their masterpiece but the rest of the album ... Read the complete review

Fleet Foxes is the debut album of the same name band another album I had to check out on my Glastonbury album trail. Whilst it might be different to numerous contemporaries, I actually found it a bit limited and overrated when discovering its successes. There image seems to be a bit of a trendy folk hippy one with minimalistic videos and touchy feely lyrics. Occasionally the vocals are a bit high for me and sound like Neil Young impersonating a cat whilst sitting on the toilet after a particularly hot dish the night before. Overall it's quite a chilled out album but I like it when they eventually kick in with a bit of acoustic guitar. I found it to be hit ... Read the complete review

This album ranks in the top 50 albums of 2008 lists of a fair few very well respected music publications. It was also recommended to me by this very site as well as by a colleague who has similar musical tastes to mine. However, I felt this album was very much overrated. It's ok, it's fine, and I have no problem giving it 3*, while I sit comfortably on the fence, but anything more than that is something I cannot do. I would even go so far as to say I'd listen to this album again if someone played it to me, but it's just something I'd prefer to have on as background noise. None of the songs stood out to me or really grabbed my attention at all. The ... Read the complete review

When this album was released in 2008 it was the most original sound to have come on the music scene in years. I find it quite difficult to classify Fleet Foxes into a genre because they are incredibly unique. I think folk would be the best I could come up with but it doesn't really do them justice. Their voices are perfect. They're a little like The Eagles, only more relaxed. Ragged Wood is a truly beautiful piece of music. I would even go so far as to say it's up there with Hotel California. "White Winter Hymnal" was a huge success in the UK. Everyone was singing along to it on the radio (albeit not quite getting ... Read the complete review
