Advantages: Superb music
Disadvantages: Not for the generic pop fans
When this album was released in 2008 it was the most original sound to have come on the music scene in years.
I find it quite difficult to classify Fleet Foxes into a genre because they are incredibly unique. I think folk would be the best I could come up with but it doesn't really do them justice.
Their voices are perfect. They're a little like The Eagles, only more relaxed.
Ragged Wood is a truly beautiful piece of music. I would even go so far as to say it's up there with Hotel California.
"White Winter Hymnal" was a huge success in the UK. Everyone was singing along to it on the radio (albeit not quite getting the words right).
Fleet Foxes make beautiful music and the band are simply geniuses.
This is definitely one of the albums you should listen to before you die.
Strangely though, they are not a big commercial success. They don't have a calendar, they don't appear on television, they don't get photographed by the paparazzi. They are clearly a group dedicated to their music.
Summary: One to listen to before you peg it
