Flood is cheerful pop band They Might Be Giant's 3rd album and it's the one that I'm most familiar with. I hadn't actually heard of the band until a couple of years ago when a friend of mine, gave me this album.

The tuneful and happy sounding Americans have a unique way of playing, almost childish in nature it's extremely upbeat and should put a smile on your face, I have heard a few people say that they find songs like "Birdhouse in Your Soul" a little bit too chirpy and irritating, I'm usually the kind of person to get irritated by such things but find this extremely enjoyable.

I think for me the best thing about They Might be Giants are their quirky, intelligent and witty lyrics, some of the rhymes are awesome, most of their work is self-written but in this case they do cover one track and it's a brilliant choice - the great "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)", it suits their style perfectly and I didn't actually realise that it wasn't their own song until recently.

To me, Flood is more or less like a "Best of" of the band, there are so many great tracks on it, perhaps the most challenging track is "Your Racist Friend" which explores a theme where the writer of the song is in the company of a friend and one of his other friends, who is racist and feels uncomfortable.

Jolly music that incorporates pop and rock without going anywhere near the mainstream sound of either genre. This is one of the best pop albums that I have in my collection and I definitely recommend you give it a go.
