They try to emphasise the joys, plights and contrariness of being a young girl - in love, the world, in marriage, in life. The CD insert has a delightful collection of the girls in a variety of fantasy pursuits - riding a skyrocket, dressed as fairies on a tree branch, issuing out of the fly zip of a pair of jeans, caught like flies on a fly paper, dressed in t...more

I recently posted a review of the recent album by this Texan trio called "Home". Here then is their huge American hit album although at the time of its release they hadn't they hadn't made as much impact in the UK but they did play one concert in London in June 1999. The Dixie Chicks were the sensation of the United States in 1999 and this album was instrumental in sparking the rise to the pinnacle of their achievement. They had been around in Texas for about three years not achieving much apart from the Country and Western Circuit. Then they recorded a rather notorious song "Goodbye Earl" which was given a lot of local and then ...  Read the complete review

Since having to undergo a career change due to ill health,I have found a lot of therapy in music. After relistening to all my favourites from the 70`s and 80`s,my son introduced me to modern country music.I have always enjoyed some country and western but have never considered myself a big enough fan to actually acquire my own collection until that fateful day when I listened to LeAnn Rimes for the first time.Shortly after that a friend told me to listen to "Dixie Chicks". Wow! I was hooked immediately! Within minutes of the start of "Fly",their second album I knew that I would love the rest of their stuff and boy is it good!!!! I ...  Read the complete review

Although not quite living up to the superb standard set by the brilliant “Wide Open Spaces”, this album is still one that those Chicks can be proud of. There are 13 tracks of varying styles, a mixture of toe-tappin’ tunes and gentle ballads, but the main thing is that all of them are good quality country songs. The reason it’s not quite as good as their previous album is, I think, that the songs on “Wide Open Spaces” were ‘softer’, with more harmonised vocals and a more gentle feel to them. This album seems to be more aggressive somehow, both in the music style and the lyrics of certain songs. The Chicks ...  Read the complete review

I have to admit that before the Dixie Chicks I was no fan of country music, but I have to say that its my favourite album. I can play it over and over, the balance of songs is just right. My favourite tracks of all time Cowboy take me away is right there. The Dixie Chicks have the perfect image and I know it’s been said time and time again, but they do make country sexy. Every so often a band come along and there just so different, this is the Dixie Chicks, as soon as I finished listening to the album I went right out and got the other one. Go out and by a copy of the album now! ...  Read the complete review
