... Even "7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)" from "From Under The Cork Tree", written about bassist Pete Wentz' suicide attempt, had a slight "up-beat" feel to it. The first single from the album was "I don't care", a song that didn't exactly hit the charts on the high side, but it was loved by the fans. It was new, it was kinda angry but in the typical FOB way, expressing anger over the selfishness in pop culture. The video had several cameo appearances by anyone from Spencer...more

Premium Review Folie A Deux - Fall Out Boy: Fall Out Boy's last stand? (698 words)
by - written on 07/08/09 (Very useful, 12 readings)
Rating:

I haven't been a fan of Fall Out Boy for that long. I must admit I was very stupid and listened to the media who put FOB in the same category as My Chemical Romance. So not true or fitting. Anyways! I pre-ordered this album, so you can understand I had high hopes! The first time i listened through it, I wasn't too impressed. Actually, not impressed at all. But if there's something I've learned over the years it is that if at first you don't like, try it again at a later date. And that's what I did. Now, FOB have traditionally made songs that are easy to listen to, without being "easy-listening", and that stick to your brain like fly paper. This album ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fall Out Boy continue their fast decline from their hardcore ... (701 words)
by - written on 08/06/09 (Very useful, 8 readings)
Rating:

Fall Out Boy return with yet another album, and unfortunately, they appear to be remaining on their steady decline, sinking deeper and deeper into the mainstream, radio friendly cliche. Fall Out Boy gained many fans from their early material, they were hardcore pop punk artists, who had a unique quaintness, an edge which seperated them from the rest of the crowd. And this was a characteristic they kept through to From Under The Cork Tree (possibly the peak of Fall Out Boy). However, from then on, Fall Out Boy have been on a slippery slope down to a mainstream, average and frankly quite boring place. Infinity On High started this decline, and Folie A Deux sure ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Folie A Deux - Fall Out Boy: So When The World Ends, Will God Go Down With It? (3331 words)

I'd promise you anything for another shot at life I haven't brought this album, but borrowed it off a friend to see if I like it and of course, to stick all the tracks onto my IPod. I've had quite a stressful day and usually Fall Out Boy's songs are fun to listen to and sometimes even let you release some anger every now and then. As I sit here to review this CD, I don't know what to expect, every Fall Out Boy CD that I have brought, I have sold on and made a profit from, however hopefully this time, I won't be not enjoying it as much as the rest. Attempting to limit how much I write, I bet you I will write the same amount as always. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Pop-punkers return with another Stellar collection (221 words)
by - written on 08/02/09 (Very useful, 15 readings)

Here we go again - Let the media write their epitaphs, let the haters vent their spleens across blog boards and websites - Fall Out Boy have released a new album. For fans desparate for a return to the days of 'Take This To Your Grave' this collection of songs takes them even further away from their original, rough around the edges punk rock - The production is gleaming, pro-tools perfection - Finely tuned under the auspices of top producers. As ever, the material here is a mixture of uptempo rockers with smart, showy lyrics, and slower, weaker balladry. The high velocity tracks work the best, both 'Coffees for Closers' and opener ' Disloyal Order of Water ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Folie A Deux - Fall Out Boy: Highly anticipated, greatly disappointed. (227 words)
by - written on 20/01/09 (Useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

I would consider myself quite a hardcore Fall Out Boy fan, until this album. Compared to their previous albums, it lacks 'bite'! I know that the band were trying something different with the album and that is always a risk when it comes to fans like myself who absolutely adore the previous albums. The fatal mistake I think has been changing the songs from being semi-autobiographical about Stumps and Wentz to being now completely fictional. The songs were more passionate, more thought-provoking and generally more interesting lyrically on previous albums. This one seems too 'mainstream' written for the record company and then so overproduced that it has ...  Read the complete review
