Advantages: It's a Prince album so it's got 2B fantastic!!
Disadvantages: There are none of course!!
For You or 4U was Prince's first album and was what set him up for a career as one of the biggest names in the music industry today.
In 1978 Prince signed a deal with Warner Brothers Records (which would later be the cause of his name change and long battle for the rights own the master coipies of his work).
Prince sent a demo tape in Warners containing 3 songs. One of which was the dirty lyriced track called "Soft and Wet" (I will leave U to guess what it is about :) LOL.)
It transpired that this very song was to be Prince's first number one hit although many deemed it sick and to vulgur to play as like many of his songs (The song "Darling Nikki" was the reason the parental guidance label was invented as of it's obcene lyrics).
The album was finally released in late 1978 and was slaughtered by the critics for being to ahead of it's time. They accused Prince of trying to mix and experiment with to many differnt sounds and styles of music, something that at the time was not done before or even thought of.
Track one entitled "4U" is a beautiful harmony with just Prince singing. The vocal arangements for the track consist of 47 differnt pitches layed on top of eachother making the track sound very powerfull and fantastic.
many of the tracks that follow have a funky and even slightly cheesy feel to them which was nothing unusuall for that time of music but there are some great tracks on the album such as "Crazy U" and "So Blue" as well as the amazing title track "4U" and the best song on the album, the grande finale "I'm Yours" which sounds so ahead of it's time with amazing guitar solo's from the young Prince / King 2B :)
Get Wild
The inlay to the album has a very old picture of Prince with a huge afro!! it is said to be the only picture of Prince where he looks black.
