Paula Abdul is one of only three women I would invite into my home and feel comfortable about her going upstairs unsupervised. She has a classy demeanor and excudes an air of elegence. She strikes me as the kind of woman you could have a very enjoyable conversation with.
Who is she:
Paula is now known as a judge on American Idol, but she started her career in the late eighties as a singer.
The wonderful 'Straight Up' is a brash and energetic pop workout, which sees Paula effortlessly breeze her through the verses with a playful delivery. The addictive chorus will get under your skin and the song knocks the likes of Britney for six. It has dated in terms of production, but the rousing trumpet noises still ring true and it is the kind of song which will get women of a certain vintage up onto the dancefloor.
She tackles a duet on the upbeat 'Opposites Attract.' I always found this song a little comical and it does not seem to take itself seriously enough. I never understood why she felt the need to sing alongside a cartoon cat either; I feel the song would have worked better had she been paired with Luther Vandross or Curtis Stigers.
'Cold Hearted' is a sufficient pop ditty, which appeals on first listen, then leaves you wondering how it went a few minutes afterwards. Head instead to 'Knocked Out' which is more fun and catchy.
A brisk ten tracks and some succulent artwork will keep you satisfied, though more photos of Paula wearing less would have been better.
