Advantages: Some excellent tracks

Disadvantages: Too many instrumentals

Forgiven Not Forgotten is the first Corrs album, but it was the second one I bought, after Talk On Corners. I was about fourteen at the time. When all my friends were listening to nu metal, I was listening to The Corrs. Oh well!

1. Erin Shore [traditional intro, instrumental] - The album opens with a traditional-sounding Celtic intro. It's not much more than a gentle violin but it's a pleasant opening to the album.
2. Forgiven, Not Forgotten - The intro leads straight into the title track, one of my favourite songs on the album and in fact one of my favourite Corrs songs ever. "A bleeding heart torn apart, left on an icy grave". It's very gothic and melancholic, full of eerie violins and a rock-sounding guitar, and always reminded me a bit of Wuthering Heights.
3. Heaven Knows - About obsessive love, this one is in a similar vein to the previous track, though it's more uptempo, with fast violins introducing and closing the song.
4. Along With the Girls [Instrumental] - A pleasant, calming, short violin-based instrumental.
5. Someday - Opening with a strong guitar riff, this song has a rockier sound. It's about a relationship coming to an end: "How do you know the love is gone?... Someday you'll forget me".
6. Runaway - This is the original version of Runaway, and I actually prefer it to the remixed version. It's slower and feels more 'stripped down'. You can really hear the piano and the violin in this one and there's even quite a rocky bit at the end.
7. The Right Time - This sounds like quite a happy song for a while: "Sun is shining in my window, life's in flow", but leads into a note of doubt.
8. The Minstrel Boy [instrumental] - A gentle song with lots of violins, reminds me of Jane Austen characters doing ballroom dancing for some reason!
9. Toss the Feathers [instrumental] - This is a really fast 'Irish jig' kind of song, it makes me want to get up and dance!
10. Love to Love You - A light pop song, not one of my favourites.
11. Secret Life - Another rather rocky-sounding song. It never struck me until a couple of years ago that it was about religion - doh!
12. Carraroe Jig [instrumental] - Another gentle instrumental song.
13. Closer - Another of my favourites - it's a lovely piano-led ballad.
14. Leave Me Alone - An ok pop song - not too keen on this one.
15. Erin Shore [instrumental] - This is essentially the same song as the intro, but extended and with bits added.

Overall, I still really like this album and I should listen to it more often. There are too many instrumentals for my liking, but there are a lot of good songs and the album is unlike anything else I own. It's rather unlike Talk On Corners and later albums, being quite folky and Celtic in sound, but it's a really good album and one I recommend.

Summary: Debut album from The Corrs
