Advantages: Irish influence, some excellent songs
Disadvantages: Sounds slightly dated
The first Corrs album is the one in which the Irish influence shines through most strongly, before the inevitable slide of the music, as the band has grown more popular, into mainstream territory. Opening with, ending with, and sprinkled throughout with Irish instrumentals, this does on occasion sound slightly dated to today's ears, and tracks are either wholly Irish or not at all - the mixing of the two which made Talk On Corners so successful is not really evident here. That said, some of the tracks are still classics: the title track, and also Runaway are cases in point, the latter having made a reappearance years later. The overall feel is of a band shaping to become the megastars they are today, flexing their musical muscle a little before really beginning to try hard. Probably this won't be liked by everyone; try and listen to some of it before you buy, and see if it appeals. If it does, then you'll learn to love this.
