Advantages: Simple and effective
Disadvantages: Not as perfect as some earlier work
As Neil Young fans are eagerly and patiently waiting for a compliation, the unique character that is Neil Young does as he pleases. I have to say, I haven't been tuned into all of his albums but the ones I'm familar with I like. Fork in the Road has a road trip theme to it, where he takes an old car across the US having made it green.
It's down to this that the album is loaded with automobile related tracks like Behind the Wheel and of course the title-track, they are stripped down tunes that are free from complications and definitely on the rockier side of life. Cough up the Bucks has an almost rap rock sound to it and does seem a bit out of place but it's an excellent track as Neil Young makes a quality observtion and compliments it perfectly with his trademark Kermit the Frogesque vocals.
The guitar playing on this album is exquisite, it's loose and almost a little bit trashy like old school blues. I didn't expect this one at all and the simple yet effective catchy rocky country pop tunes are aplenty, there's not a single track that lets the album down.
The version that I review also includes some pretty cool videos, the first three being videos for songs where you get a feel for the roadtrip and the 3rd a live concert outtake.
