Iced Earth are an American Power Metal band that formed way back in 1984. Originally calling themselves 'Purgatory', the band were forced to change their name by another group of the same name. Over the years, the band have gone through numerous line-up changes, with Jon Schaffer now remaining to be the only original member of the band. As the rhythm guitarist and songwriter, Schaffer is and always has been the central figure behind the band.
