Amy Winehouse seems to be in the news a lot, for her well published issues with drink and drugs, her husband and her 'antics'. I have to say that I was not initially impressed with her music. Then someone suggested I listen to 'Moody's Mood For Love'. I loved it, I will talk a bit more about it later on, suffice to say, in my opinion it is a modern Jazz classic. I have now bought the album on i-tunes. This was her first album, before all the 'rehab' songs etc. So, the tracks, one by one. 1. Intro/Stronger Than Me -------------------------------------------- Quite a strong start, very smokey, bit 'angsty', she does not really sound like any other ... Read the complete review

I bought this cd on a whim. This troubled young lady created so many headlines in the past year. I had to get on the band wagon. I only had one reservation. Is the album any good? At £5.97 from Amazon I had to go for it really. The cd has thirteen songs. The music is fusion of soul and Jazz. I won't be surprised if this young lady is not compared to past singers like Nina Simone. She has a brilliant husky voice; she is a natural, lyric written by her have a sense of humour, listen to 'Fxck Me Pumps'. She is making some sort of statement here too. Winehouse is one of the greatest talents to emerge in this country for years. Every track ... Read the complete review

Jazz. It's divided the world since the beginning of the 20th Century. Like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, indeed I heard that Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue album was the jazz album that non-jazz fans would like. I'm a non-jazz fan and didn't like it. But! This album from North London's Amy Winehouse could just help create a third opinion on jazz: "I don't mind it". SO WHO IS SHE? She's a 20 year old singer from North London with impeccable timing. Her emergence has coincided with the current glut of "lounge"-style Brit-crooners such as Katie Melua, Michael Buble and Jamie Cullum. There's one difference, her style is from the ... 'Frank' is Amy Winehouse's first album, and oh boy, what an album it is. As someone who had never really sat down and listened to her music (was living overseas when the Winehouse bomb went off), I decided that I'd had enough of reading gossip in the press, and goddamit, I was going to listen to her music and concentrate on that alone. So I bought Frank. The tracklist is as follows: 1. Stronger Than Me (Jazz Intro) 2. You Send Me Flying (Cherry) 3. Know You Now 4. F**k Me Pumps 5. I Heard Love Is Blind 6. Moody's Mood For Love (Teo Licks) 7. (There Is) No Greater Love 8. In My Bed 9. Take The Box 10. ... Read the complete review

Winehouse is no name for the kind of voice that Amy has! Let's clear this up right now, although some have compared her with Macy Gray-she really only sounds the tiniest amount like her. I think the comparrison serves really to group her amongst other innovative and distinguisahble vocalists. Reviewing Frank her debut album; I will endeavor to be Frank. I am not going to say anything about her public persona as I dont think this is the most interesting or special thing about this lady. I sometimes feel like the media concentrates far too much on the behaviour of a given star instead on really just how good an artist they. In this case I will agree she is ...
