Advantages: Some good RnB music
Disadvantages: Not enough quality
Freedom is the third major release from Senegalese singer Akon, real name Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam (you can see why he just uses Akon for a name).
The album features the well-known songs 'Right Now (NaNaNa)', 'Beautiful' and '. I'm So Paid'. Chances are you will have heard these on your radio and they're pretty solid RnB tracks. I'm not so much a fan of the bragging type of song so I didn't like the last song but the other 2 are catchy and both solid efforts.
My favourite songs on the album are the first 2 singles and one I'd never heard of before called 'Keep You Much Longer'. Musically these songs are a lot stronger than the rest of the album and are better than the average RnB release. 'Sunny Day' is another interesting song about when Akon finally makes his big break after struggling to make it. It's just a nice song with Wyclef Jean that tells their story of going from ghetto to glory.
Freedom is just over an hour long so it's longer than most releases lately. The 13 songs vary from being quite decent to being good but there isn't really anything that stands out too much. If you just like the singles I'd advise you to just buy them on their own but if you have £5 to spare and want a chilled out RnB album you could do worse than this.
1. Right Now (NaNaNa)
2. Beautiful ft. Colby O Donis and Kardinal Offishall
3. Troublemaker ft. Sweet Rush
4. Keep You Much Longer
5. We Don't Care
6. I'm So Paid ft. Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy
7. Holla Holla ft. T-Pain
8. Against The Grain ft. Ray Lavender
9. Be With You
10. Sunny Day ft. Wyclef Jean
11. Birthmark
12. Over The Edge
13. Freedom
7/10
Summary: Worth getting if you're an Akon fan
