This was the first widely available album from this European four piece (Previous album 'A Triumph for Man' has been sold for hundreds of pounds on certain auction sites) and boy was it worth the wait. Combining angelic, coyly feminine vocals (Yes, that is a male singer) with driving, passionate bombast - THis is a treat for the ears from beginning to end.

Standout track 'Snow Brigade' is the song which should have elevated Mew into the realms of superstars, a perfect combination of hyperactive drums, grinding guitars and shimmering melody - The chorus of "I'll find you somewhere, show you how much i care" repeated until it finds a home in your brain forever.

They wrap the album up with the 8 minute epic, 'Comforting Sounds' - It starts with a whisper, and gradually builds into a wall of sound, accompanied by a string quartet - As the music fades, you know that you've experienced something fresh, something special, something very Mew.
