Stand! - Sly & the Family Stone
by XICripZ - written on 30/08/09 (Very useful, 45 readings)
Rating:
In 1969 came the fourth album from Sly & The Family Stone, "Stand!". It was seen as an advancement from the Psychedelic Soul, Rock and Funk band as one which had them really break through into the mainstream with songs which reached out even further than before. The impact of its release is evident in how it continues to be brought back in the Hip Hop and R&B world. 1. "Stand!" The album begins to the band coming with a warming song which has them getting right down to the issues which have influenced them to create this project here as they come with one which has them taking of how people have to take action in their lives to speak on ...

Life - Sly & The Family Stone

Rating:
The Psychedelic Funk/Rock/Soul band Sly & The Family Stone released "Life" as their third album in 1968. It was their second album of the year, and so saw minimal musical progression from the band that to this day still get sampled in the Hip Hop world and covered by R&B musicians. 1. "Dynamite!" Getting the album underway you see that they get down to one which has them driving down something which was heard on their last album as you have one which appears to take on the style which was prominent in the Pop-based work coming out of Motown at this time. I wasn t all that into it, but I can see the appeal in the uplifting song. Two Stars ...

Dance To The Music - Sly & The Family Stone
by razielle - written on 25/03/09 (Useful, 81 readings)
Rating:
I LOVE Sly & The Family Stone. When I was a kid I thought they were all related, however only Sly Stone and Freddie Stone are, as brothers. Cynthia Robinson was their trumpeter, Jerry Martini on Saxophone, Greg Errico on drums, and Larry Graham on bass, although Sly and Freddie s sister Rose joined later. The group had been around since the mid nineteen sixties, and split in the early nineteen eighties, their music would be considered to be in the funk, soul, rock genre. On side one of the original album was: "Dance To The Music" - 3:00 "Higher" - 2:49 "I Ain t Got Nobody (For Real)" - 4:26 Dance To The Medley - 12:12 "Music ...
