I had like everyone else heard the rumours of Will Young calling it quits, and leaving BMG and not even writing nor recording a second album. Me being a usual fan of the artist who produced the wonderful, and soulful ''From Now On'' - the 1st album, I was sure that ''Friday's Child'' would be of the same quality, even better. This was surely for me, and a group load of other people obviously going to be a hugely anticptated album after a long break, Will Young clearly had left his shedload of fans and me wanting more. When i got this, I was not suprised. It seemed distinctive, soulful, jazzy, excellent - just what i expected and wanted. The tracks just flow on from each other and they seem to carry their own meaningful message with Will Young being the vehicle to get that message across. There are 11 tracks, over half of which reportdly which Young has written or help to write. ''Love The One You're With'' is a cover of the classic, of which Young just brings it into the 21st century. This is excellently sang, very jazzy, and wonderfully distinctive version of the classic hit. ''Your Game'' was surely the most obvious track, we thought Will had written in his time. Written by Will Young and later released as a single, this is excellent, choir music aimed at teenagers. ''Stronger'' is a deep and meaningfull track which is about the strength to do something, without being stopped to do so. Young sings this with passion and makes a convicing act. This is a faviourite to me. Wonderfully sang - once again. This is a great ballad, which is jazzy, soulful as anything else on this album ''Leave Right Now'' is a stonking single, which really must have sparked a bit of interest. This is as meaningful as Will Young's songs get!. Every word has meaning as such the backing music make the song listenable and mellow with Young a
dding a Poppy and soulful sense to the song. ''Love Is A Matter Of A Distance'' Is once again, another wonderful song with meaningful lyrics, and wonderfully sang by Will yet again! ''Dance The Night Away'', this makes me wanna do what exactly the title says. This is rocky, jazzy, soulful, poppy - Young surely knows how to deliver! ''Very Kind'', is the most distinctive track on this album. It is so different from all the other tracks and has been written by, and apparently produced by Will himself. The song like ''Stronger'' and ''Leave Right Now'' has a deepful meaning, one which cannot not be helped to be ignored. Wonderful. ''Free'' is an excellent song, again written by Will Young. The song itself is distinctive, but not meaningful. Jazzy but not soulful. Very dancy, like ''Dance The Night Away'' I cant help dance to this ''Going My Way'' says exaclty what this album is saying to any reviewer, like me. It reflects the journey and the route Young hopes to take with this music. This music surely is got to be applauded for its soulful, jazzy and amazing voice by Young - which just stands out. I think this track again is meaningful and probably is subliminal in some sense - as Young is trying to say! ha, all you critics here i am all ''Going My Way''. I think this is an excellent song because it is good, but not amazing but did have me unexpendtly by the second or third time bopping my feet to it. ''Out Of My Mind'' Is like ''Dance The Night Away'', it is everything you would except a good dance record to do. It has a catchy chorus, a rhythm, a ballad and an uncontrabble urge to make the audience move their booty. This is an excellent record, once again no meaningful lyrics, or deepful passion from Young but some great rhythm of dance ag
ain! ''Friday's Child'' is perhaps again like ''Very Kind'' distinctive, apparently a cover but Young makes it his own. His amazing voice makes a old song, a 21st century version with meaningfulness and deepful passion. This is Young at his best. I cannot see a single track from here, like i excepted to be of bad quality. Almost every song by my reckoning is excellent and single quality. This proves to me what i have always thought, Young is an excellent artist, and this is surely an excellent 2nd album. It is soulful, jazzy, dancy, meaningful - this is a stonker!

- 26/06/04 Not my kind of music, but I'm glad you like it enough to give it the ultimate accolade, "stonker." Great review, it's always good to see a band or artist producing more than one worthwhile album.
