 ... acts such as the Stone Roses and Badly Drawn Boy shine through as influences, South have a style very much all of their own. The range of songs on the album is quite vast and perhaps the only criticism I have, is it may have too many tracks. Leaving out the odd track or two may have given the album a bit more punch and provided excellent b-side material. It's almost unnerving to watch as bands such as Turin Brakes, Starsailor and Elbow deservedly receive great reviews and praise from the music world but Joel Cadbury, Brett Shaw and Jamie McDonald a.k.a South, are left dangling in the wind. South's debut album was released at roughly the same time as Turin Brakes' Optimist Lp but for some obscure reason they have received little, if any of the same sort of attention. Equally worthy of descriptions such as first class, enchanting and five stars, the young twenty something trio have yet to make waves on the music scene.
