Bat For Lashes is the brainchild of Natasha Khan, an Anglo-Pakistani woman from Brighton. Formed during her stint working as a primary school teacher, Bat For Lashes has been likened to Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Fiona Apple although I would hesistate to include the last two in my list of similarities. However, if you have a fondness for Kate Bush then you might really enjoy the whimsical, eclectic charm of Bat For Lashes. Fur and Gold was first released in September 2006 and was later nominated for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize (although it unfortunately didn't win it). Bat For Lashes is a musical project of Brighton's singer-songwriter Natasha Khan, a female artist who has here chosen to create music that atmospheric and emotional. Khan has in the past been compared to the likes of Bjork and Kate Bush; I guess that these comparisons are fair but ultimately Natasha Khan is her own woman and with this 'Fur and Gold' album the music possesses an extremely original and unique sound. Natasha Khan has an excellent voice, not too many great ideas however and whilst the music is vocally well sung here; you always feel that Khan is here holding something back. the cover of the album and the name of the band really doesnt give away much for this band. theyre a relatively unknown band and dont really have a 'definitive' track that they will be known for. they arent really in a particular genre as their music is new and diffrent. the lead singer has a fantastic voice and along with some great lyrics and good instrumental accompinaments it makes this album a really good listen. my favourite songs will have to be horse and i and prescilla. though all the songs on the album are good. if your looking to extend your music tastes and try something new or liek this type of music already then this album is definately for you. i think in ...
