      Pretty good but not brill

Jarvis Cocker's "Further Complications" was released last year, to promote it he spent a day selling copies in HMV and recommending music, as a fellow Sheffielder, I've always been a fan and thought his recent work "Relaxed Muscle" was superb.

Further Complications sort of advertises itself as a rocky release and whilst it does get pretty heavy in places, it's also surprisingly jazzy and souly and I wouldn't label it as particularly heavy.

It's the lyrics that tend to dominate the songs though and it does seem a little bit like Jarvis Cocker has tried to be a bit too clever for his own good as it's full of humorous remarks and clever games with words, sometimes he really pulls it off - on "Leftovers", it's especially entertaining and helps it make the song my favourite on the album along with the catchy and powerful "Fucking song", at other times it seems that he's being clever just for the sake of it and it doesn't necessarily suit the music all that much, I would say that after a slightly slow start the album reaches its pinnacle by Caucasian Blues and is downhill from then on, whilst the adventure in to different styles (as I mentioned it gets a bit jazzy and souly towards the end) is admirable, it's not all that great.

Overall I think this album has a few songs to offer and fans of Jarvis won't want to miss out but it's not that spectacular and it is certainly not the unexpected andd ingenuitive release that came about with Relaxed Muscle!
