Advantages: Plenty of variety
Disadvantages: There will be no more music
The cheeky picture of Kirsty on the inside cover with the Cuban cigar and hat showed her growing interest with South American music and politics. I first got into her work when I was working in a factory environment, with the radio blaring out all day. The track 'Caroline' was the single, which struck a chord with me at the time. This coincided with the release of the album Galore, which I had to go and purchase. I then discovered the diversity of her work, which resulted in the purchase of all her previous albums. The lyrics of the songs are an absolute joy - the ability to identify with the listener that a lot of the pop bands seem to miss. The music itself is superb, always setting off the velvety voice. The collaberations with the big names of the time show that Kirsty was highly thought of by all in the music industry. My personal favourite on the album is the Smiths classic 'You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby'. On seeing this on the track listing, I was convinced that it was going to be the usual awful cover version. How wrong! I was surprised, but delighted, to discover that one of my favourite Smiths songs had been so greatly done. I would have to say that this version possibly just has the edge. The lyrics, always seeming to stick two fingers up at the charty-pop bands attempts, really make this collection hits gel together. The humour and feeling put into the music are second to none, making this my favourite album of all time.
