Advantages: Energetic, good old rock 'n' roll.

Disadvantages: Derivative.

Jet are a rock'n'roll band from Australia naming The Beatles, AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and various other classic rock bands.
First thing I have to say is Jet don't make any particuarly thought-provoking tunes or anything which is musically innovative in any way. But the songs are feel good and thats what I'll be focusing in my review.
Opener Last Chance gives us the benchmark and first impressions of the album. Raw production, twangle and crunch guitars, throat shredding vocals and very simple lyrical themes. The drums are thunderous and guitar work very 60s. The song doesn't outplay its welcome clocking in at only 1.52, its drummer Chris on lead vocals for this one, but I think you'll find it quite difficult to discern between the two brothers: Drummer Chris and Guitarist/Vocalist Nic.
Look What You've Done shows a softer side to the quartet with a piano led ballad. Nic drops the grit in his vocals for a softer croon. One thing I will say about the song is that it sound very similar to Sexy Sadie by The Beatles which whilst is no bad thing shows little creativity on Jet's part seeing as they cite The Beatles as a main influence.
We're back to fast rock 'n' roll frolics with Cold Hard Bitch, cheesy yeeeeah intro vocals, crunchy AC/DC guitars and Keith Moon-eque drums, Nic shouts of rebellion towards a hostile partner in again easy lyrics. It's not innovative but it's fun and good to driving music or just generally when maybe you feel a bit angry :).
A real highlight for me is final Sgt. Major which is a bonus track and thank God it's on here! Acoustic guitar intro morphs into the typical twang of electric guitars and thumping drums. Nic goes from scream to whisper in this track that has a brlliant breakdown. The song is allegedly about a producer who tried to exploit them but it could easily be about anyone for you and me.
Get Born is a really big, fun and silly album that has a few more tender moments (Timothy is commemorated to guitarist Cameron's brother who died before birth). It's very derivative and won't get any prizes for creativity but its so energetic and heartfelt that I don't mind. It would be brilliant to see these guys live. Bring on the third album.

Summary: Good for fans of classic rock just don't come expecting anything new here.
