Advantages: Some strong music is contained within this album, a number of incredibly hard hitting tracks.

Disadvantages: There are a few weak links here, not always is the music entirely effective.

'Getting Away With Murder' is the 2004 release from the Californian rock band that is Papa Roach. The band actually formed in 1993 and this was the third major label album, a release containing twelve tracks and a grand total of 38 minutes of music. During the bands early days the music of Papa Roach had always taken a nu-metal approach, as time progressed however the sound of this band gradually changed and with this album Papa Roach created an extremely effective alternative metal album.

Title track 'Getting Away With Murder' and 'Scars' also were released successfully as singles from this album, aside from this the 'Getting Away With Murder' album certainly has plenty more to offer however. 'Be Free' is perhaps my favourite track from this release, a powerful little number with strong lyrics also. The track is perfectly put across by Papa Roach, the guitars are incredibly strong here and the drum beats also are mightily impressive. Add to this the fact that the vocals are put across excellently by the bands front man Jacoby Shaddix also and you have an incredibly strong combination indeed. Everything about this track just seems to work; it is in my opinion the best track that this album has to offer and is perhaps the best song that this band has ever recorded. The vocals are venomous, real heartfelt passion can be heard in the vocal performance here and for me this makes this 'Be Free' track stand out as incredibly powerful.

'Not Listening' is another track from this release that I feel is perfectly put across by Papa Roach. Once more the music is incredibly strong here, the sound that is created here just seems to work and this track is therefore an absolute joy to listen to. Papa Roach is quite a talented band I feel, this is shown with this track and the music really comes across well here. The vocals are incredibly effectively sung on 'Not Listening', once more the lyrics are poignant and powerful; you really feel that the band mean the lyrics that are being sung here and the track therefore has great meaning and significance. When listening to this album this is one of the main tracks that stands out to me, the music is extremely well put across by Papa Roach here and never is there a dull moment.

When listening to this 'Getting Away With Murder' album it is not hard to hear why 'Scars' and 'Getting Away With Murder' were released commercially as singles. Both of these tracks are incredibly strong, in my opinion it is 'Scars' however that is by far the more powerful of the two. There's something really quite hard hitting about 'Scars', something about the track that really strikes a chord and makes the music stand out as memorable. The track is three and a half minutes in length, a perfectly paced and strongly delivered song. The music is emotionally stirring, it's well sung as ever by the bands front man and never does the music of the band disappoint here. My opinion is that Jacoby Shaddix is a greatly talented front man, terrific use of his talent is made with this track I feel; his voice is strong and it is incredibly well put across. With this track excellent use of backing vocals is made in order to really complete the feel of it all and make sure that 'Scars' lasts long in the memory.

Not all of this album is excellent, there are a few dodgy moments here and not always is the music greatly effective; more often than not I feel that this 'Getting Away With Murder' album is excellent however and the music is really well put across by the band. This is not the strongest album ever to have been released, it is however probably the best that Papa Roach has ever recorded and released as a band. There are many exceptional songs on display here, this album is a lot different to the bands breakthrough debut album 'Infest' and is in my opinion a hell of a lot better also. Sometimes this band tries a few things here that don't work out too well, on the whole however 'Getting Away With Murder' provides for an excellent listening experience and for that reason I wholeheartedly recommend giving this release a listen.

Summary: 'Getting Away With Murder' is a strong album that I'd definitely recommend listening to.
