A.R.Rahman scores a commercial album for a change!

The combination of composer A.R.Rahman and actor Aamir Khan has always resulted into gold and so the expectations were huge here. Its a new challenge here, since Ghajini falls under the commercial bracket(Aamir Khan and Rahman are renowned for working in different and offbeat films). So does Rahman live upto the expectations? Yes,he does!!

The album starts off with "Guzarish" where melody takes center stage. The song is smooth as silk and is certainly catchy. The listener is hooked from the first listening which is a rare achievement considering its a Rahman composition(his songs tend to grow on you). Javed Ali's vocals are perfect for such a romantic song but its Sonu Nigam's humming portion that elevates this song to a different level. This is a great song to listen to on the repeat mode and in cars! "Aye Bacchu" doesn't sound like Rahman at all,its nothing like you have heard from him in a long time. Suzanne D'Mello is at ease with such fast paced songs and the end product is a fun frolic song.

The album comes back to melody with "kaise mujhe" which is not only brilliantly composed but also very well sung by newcomer Benny Dayal and dependable Shreya Ghoshal. This has to be one of the best romantic songs of the year reminding you of your beloved. Prasoon Joshi's lyrics are drenched with love and true emotions and the arrangements compliment them. Benny Dayal has a bright future and such a first impression does project a lot of talent in him. Shreya Ghoshal has a small portion but her honey coated voice will give you goosebumps!

"Behka" is fun and carries heavy hip hop influences. This is the kind of song that can uplift your mood. Sung in almost a breathless manner by Karthik, this Rahman track shows his grasp of different genres of music. "Lattoo" is the last song you would expect from Rahman, but he surprises you with such a commercial song. Prasoon Joshi goes out of his poetic way to write some really funky lines. The real star of the song is Shreya Ghoshal. The singer is one of the aces of classical music in India but her new avatar here is a revelation! She seems to have the time of her life singing this song and the listening experience is great! Rahman's melody adds to the fun, he breaks it into small pieces and the sound is clearly different.

The album ends with a fantastic instrumental of Kaise mujhe which is perfect for playing in the background when you are having a nice romantic dinner.

Ghajini is a great commercial album with two chartbusters in the form of "Guzarish" and "Kaise mujhe".
