Advantages: A few classics in there
Disadvantages: Thousands of un-needed rappers!
Poor Mariah. 2001 really wasn't her year- what with the breakdown and all. This album is the soundtrack to the awful movie she starred in (also called "Glitter"), and it's definetly not Mariah's best work... LOVERBOY (Remix) Ouch! A terrible first song! Mariah has surrounded herself with half a dozen mad rappers and basically ruined a sample of Cameo's "Candy". Possibly the worst song of 2001, and definetly the worst Mariah song ever! The vocals are all over the place and have no meaning! LEAD THE WAY Thank god! After 4 minutes of hell, you can breath again with a typical Mariah ballad "Lead The Way". Uses more emotion than older songs such as "Without You", and has a feel good factor about it. IF WE What now? Yes, it's another stinker. Mariah falls back and depends on rappers Ja Rule and Nate Dogg to make a dogs dinner out of this track! I must admit though, it has a sweet beat. DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN YOU ON Saved once again, Mariah glosses up the once boring 80's song. It uses lots of synthesizers, which makes it sound very outdated, though. DON'T STOP (Funkin' For Jamaica) This track should be on Mystikal's album because he raps through about 90% of the song! Nice rhythm, but (no real suprise) it clearly depends on the 1980's song "Funkin' For Jamaica". Near the end of the track, Mariah mumbles throughout then finally wails like a wild cat at the end. ALL MY LIFE Sounds very similar to older tracks in a good way. "All My Life" manages to shine through the darkness that this album has provided so far. At first it may sound boring, but after a few listens it grows on you. REFLECTIONS (Care Enough) Another typical ballad, which literally reflects back on a mixture of previous songs (most noticably being "Thank God I Found You"). Nice but not special. <
br> LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE Despite the annoying nonsense provided by Busta Rhymes, this song is a great cover! Mariah shows off some very strong and controlled vocals, blocking out the interuptions from the rappers. Keeps in line with the 80's theme going on here. WANT YOU Eric Benet and Mariah don't really sound right together, but a nice pop/ light rock song anyway. NEVER TOO FAR A huge, powerful ballad that you might expect to hear in a classic disney movie. Although Mariah sounds slightly breathless in parts, it's an incredible track which builds up into an explosive end. TWISTER A (very) short and sweet little ballad, with realistic lyrics (for once). Deals with sensitive issues such as someone commiting suicide. A not expected beauty ballad. LOVERBOY What is she doing putting two versions of Loverboy on the album???????? The "pop" version swops the rappers for Cameo (a famous boy band), but in the end it's still totally dreadful. In future Mariah, stick with the ballads and up-tempo dance tracks and GET RID OF THE RAPPERS!
