Abbacadabra - We Love AbbaMamma Mia! Abba Covers?! (351 words)
by benlepensive - written on 10/10/09 (Very useful, 20 readings)
We love Abba don't we? Don't we? I am more into them now than I was before 'Mamma Mia' came out, though I wouldn't say I am a die hard fan. The Almighty camp have come up with this offering, a three disc set bursting with Abba cover versions by Abbacadabra. Not sure what the group looks like, but I think that might be them on the sleeve. They specialise in dancefloor friendly remakes of old Abba songs. Simple formula but does it work? 'Dancing Queen' is sprightly and keen and the vocals sound fresh enough, it is a lot pacier than the original and the production on this is not bad, a promising start to the album. 'Knowing Me Knowing You' is delivered well too, with sparkly bells ...
We Love DiscoWho Loves Disco? (344 words)

We love disco do we? Well I don't. End of review. Actually, I don't mind a small dose of disco, provided it is in the right environment, probably in a club at the start of the night, the kind of music to ease you into the evening. Disco isn't too harsh and is generally easy on the ear. This thirty track album is spread over two discs and boasts some original recordings and also some rarer tracks, I cite brand new and exclusive remixes of Thelma Houston, Tata Vega and Donna Summer, though not really sure who Tata Vega is! The album is blended into a seamless mix and you get extended versions too. The album kicks off with Chic's 'Le Freak' a bonefide classic, this is ...
Gay Anthems, Vol. 3So Very Very Naff (329 words)
by benlepensive - written on 13/10/09, updated on 13/10/09 (Very useful, 19 readings)
What lovely cover artwork we have here. Two topless men engaging in what looks like some sort of game of piggyback. They seem to be having fun anyway and we know that grown men love playing piggyback while semi naked. This anthemic CD package is crammed with camp cheesy dancefloor fillers. There are two discs in total, the first has twelve songs and then disc two is a megamix CD. It opens with a robust song from stalwart Jane McDonald. Jane delivers 'Doctor's Orders' well though she does sound like a man on the track which is quite odd. I liked the chords which called to mind an old Carly Simon track. Kimberley Locke sings 'Fall' and proves she can hold a tune, though ...
