Abba were never an album band, but this one provides all the songs (19 of them!) you know and of course sing along to when you're completely plastered(or not!!).

From 'Mamma Mia' to 'Voulez Vous' to 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' (I bet you're singing 'em right now!) each one is a corker, these songs can never be forgotten. They were the phenomenon of the 70s, and influenced countless pop bands afterwards. And of course if Abba were never around we wouldn't have Steps...

They might not have been Dylanesque lyrically, but few have ever written songs with such clever hooks, bridges and infectious rhythm. Thirty years after the fact, the impossible has happened - Abba has finally become cool!

Although this type of music may be considered "Golden Oldies" by today's standards, the music remains as fresh and as enjoyable as when it was first released. I think that this is a recording that people of all ages and music interests can enjoy.

But I do have to issue a warning to those who do not yet own any Abba albums. They WILL get under your skin, despite their disco sensibilities, lyrics that sometimes cross the border into the silly and those (ahem!) funky outfits they used to wear.

This is because Benny and Bjorn were first rate songwriters who knew that a good hook is the key to a great song, and because Frida and Agnetha had the prefect throats to sings those songs. Be forewarned, if you buy this album as your initiation, you may well find yourself seeking out other Abba albums.............

Along with MORE ABBA GOLD, this album is a great sampling of ABBA's career. If you remember the days of the 70s you'll be taking numerous trips down memory lane, if not you'll simply be delighted by two guys and two girls who knew how to create a wonderfully simple, pure pop sound...not an easy accomplishment. In this genre, ABBA has never been equalled. (well except
for 'Steps' maybe? hehehe)
