Advantages: Such a variety on this album

Disadvantages: Three songs that aren't up to scratch

I surprised myself at not rushing out and buying it straight away, but I was going through a phase of actually saving my money. I bought the re-release of Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad album after getting a £10 voucher from the Valued Opinions questionnaires that I'd been completing for the bargain price of £3.98.

Good Girl Gone Bad is Rihanna's third album and the version that I bought was re-released in June 2008. In comparison to Music of the Sun and A Girl Like Me, this album veers slightly away from her 'pop' sound and image and is more R'n'B.

Unlike a lot of albums, a fair few songs on this have been released as singles. It includes the hits Umbrella, Don't Stop the Music, Shut Up and Drive, Hate That I Love You, Rehab, Disturbia and Take a Bow, although there are a great deal more that could easily have also been number ones.

1) Umbrella - 4 minutes 36 seconds: This song features Jay Z. What an iconic song this has become. I'll be amazed if anyone reading this hasn't heard this song at least once. In the UK, this song was at number one for ten weeks! Who could imagine how big this song would be? It is such a catchy song, that once heard, will remain in your head for the rest of the day. In my opinion, this even the song of 2007 and the title totally sums up the summer we had that year. Is Rihanna to blame? 10/10

2) Push Up On Me - 3 minutes 15 seconds: Quite a catchy number. I think, had this been released it would have been quite popular in the charts, although I believe this is true for most of the songs on this album. 7/10

3) Don't Stop The Music - 4 minutes 27 seconds: A fantastic song that was a huge hit when it was the fourth single to be released on the album. It is an upbeat number that is great song to have a dance to. I also love the words to this song. 9/10

4) Breakin' Dishes - 3 minutes 21 seconds: This song makes me laugh because for about 3 months I've been singing the totally wrong words. Not a song that is going to set the world alight but it's quite a catchy number. A good one to listen when you are getting ready if you're going on a girly night out. It definitely grows on you. 7/10

5) Shut Up And Drive - 3 minutes 33 seconds: I love this song. It is one of my favourite songs on the album. When I listen the album in the car, I always think the police are behind me with the siren like sounds in the background. Great song to sing along to. 8/10

6) Hate That I Love You - 3 minutes 39 seconds: This song features Ne-yo. The combination of two of my favourite artists has hit written all over it and it certainly doesn't disappoint. It is one of few slower songs on the album and the lyrics are superb. Unlike anything else Rihanna has ever produced. 10/10

7) Say It - 4 minutes 11 seconds: My least favourite song on the album. It's quite a slow one and hasn't got that much going for it. Now, when I listen to the album, it's the one that I just skip over. This is the start of the three songs that I believe to be of lower quality than the rest of the album. 4/10

8) Sell Me Candy - 2 minutes 46 seconds: This is quite an average song considering the rest of the album. I'm not all that keen on Rihanna's vocals on this song. 5/10

9) Lemme Get That - 3 minutes 41 seconds: Better than the song earlier, but as with Sell Me Candy, I don't like Rihanna's vocals. There are strange noises throughout the song and the lyrics are really strange as well. 5/10

10) Rehab - 4 minutes 55 seconds: Back to her best on this song. I love everything from her voice to the lyrics. It is a slowing tempo than most of the songs on the album. Easy listening and it's a hit in my opinion. 8/10

11) Question Existing - 4 minutes 7 seconds: When I originally listened to the album, I must admit, I didn't like this song. But now, I think it's brilliant. A great song to listen to when chilling out. 7/10

12) Good Girl Gone Bad - 3 minutes 33 seconds: I particularly like the beat of this song. Unlike many of the songs on the album, and I think Rihanna should have released this as a single. It shows off a different side to Rihanna, very soulful. 7/10

13) Cry - 3 minutes 54 seconds: I think this song is actually quite similar to Take A Bow (later in the CD), not that I'm complaining as I think that song is fantastic. Not a song to listen to if you want your mood uplifted! 8/10

14) Disturbia - 3 minutes 59 seconds: What a great song. The total opposite to the one previously. This will get you in the frame of mind to go out drinking and dancing! But my question is, what is disturbia? 9/10

15) Take A Bow - 3 minutes 49 seconds: What an amazing ballad. I always here this song on the radio and never get fed up of it. She really does show in this song what a fantastic voice she has. 9/10

16) If I Never See Your Face Again - 3 minutes 18 seconds: This song is featuring Maroon 5 and I think it is a brilliant collaboration. It is probably the last group I would ever have expected to see her performing with. She shows of a more rock side to her. 9/10

The price has strangely gone increased since I bought it from amazon but Good Girl Gone Bad is available from www.bangcd.com for £6.99.

If you like this album, it's likely that you'll enjoy Brandy's album Afrodisiac as it is commonly known that the was the inspiration for Good Girl Gone Bad.

This album definitely gets my approval. It is great value for money. You really see how versatile Rihanna is as an artist. Thanks Rihanna!

Summary: From ballads to dance tracks, this album has it all.

Great review. I like this album a lot although it anoys me artists keep bringing out these 'reloaded' versions with a couple of new songs on there that render your older copy useless.

Umbrella almost drove me into complete self-destruction and the "off" switch on my radio wore out lol. Good review though and nominated!
