Advantages: While Rihanna has 'gone bad,' I can still hear her delicious bajan tone in her voice.
Disadvantages: Other music sounds so lame now...
Good Girl Gone Bad is the the third studio album by bajan beauty Rihanna. When lisening to it, I found each and every song is sublime, and ideal for a single each. Umbrella, with it's delicious 80's guitar backdrop, which cascades in the background of the chorus, was, and always will be a summer-smash, and whether you are hooked by Jay-Z's opening Rap, or Rihanna's infectious 'ella-ella-eh-eh-eh,' youare sure to keep the repeat button on.
As well as Umbrella, Rihanna has a selection of addictive dance antems, both released as singles, and remain on the album. Don't Stop The Music sublimly samples Michael Jackson's 'Wannabe Startin' Somethin', and transforms it into a modern anthem, which will have you mama sayin' your way down the road. With DSTM, Breakin' Dishes gives an intense beat, paired with exquisite lyrics; "I'm roasting marshmallows on the fire, and what i'm burnin' is your attire," which make you smile at the thought of Rihanna bleaching her man's clothes, and not stopping until the police arrive. Shut Up and Drive is not the finest song on the album, yet, it is a compelling listening session, where it is a delight to hear the pairing of modern R&B vocals, and a rock background.
I first heard 'Say It' in the summer sun. It has stuck with me since. THe song is so 'airy,' and fresh. It is fun and a true song for jamming around on your own. Lemme Get That and Sell Me Candy also pump out infection lyrics, and it is a great dissappointment that no video exists for either. Cry, a touching ballard is so personal, and draws you into the lyrics so much so that you feel right next to RIhanna.
The Re-release of this album brought summer anthems Take A Bow and Disturbia, along with the Grammy-nominated If I never see your face again, featuring Maroon 5. Disturbia, like SUAD, showed the usic industry that it is now unfashionable for an R&B artist to stick with R&B style music. The gothic video sets this song of perfectly, and, in my opinion, makes it the best song on the album. Take A Bow's playful lyrics toy with the listener, and will undoubtedly make you smile, at the delicious puns and methaphores.
Good Girl Gone Bad is the greatest album i have ever listened to, and it's replay factor is sublime.
