Time Capsule: The Greatest Hits - The B-52's
by benlepensive - written on 28/02/09 (Very useful, 37 readings)
Rating:
intrigued me, with their own brand of quirky pop music, never sliding easily into one specific genre. They have had a handful of hits, only one big hit single in The UK, yet continue to put out albums. This album gather some of their bigger hits. Who are they: US based group who have been around since the late seventies. They specialise in off the wall guitar pop, with a punky edge. Highlights: Planet Claire is a weird enough start, with zany sounding vocals and a tune which does not really click. I believe it is Fred on vocals here and his sneering voice does not seem to work with the lyrics, as he sings of a girl from another planet. There is a strong punk ...

Cosmic Thing - The B-52's
by SpookyMoon - written on 18/05/09 (Useful, 13 readings)
Rating:
Fans of The B-52s will probably really like this album, much better than Bouncing Off the Satellites. Although I still really like this band. This album is a return their earlier style (before Ricky Wilson died). I will admit that their sound is a tiny bit more updated in this album but it still isnt really anything special in my opinion. I will say that it is very up-beat and boppy (which is something fans probably really like about this band). But I have to say that I found the electric synthesizer twangy sound really annoying and a constant back ground reiteration of the lyrics is also really irritating. Although I think that Cindy Wilson s vocals can be really ...

Funplex - B-52's

Rating:
Funplex is The latest B-52 s album, released in 2008 (March in US, April in UK) - the band s first in 16 years that was created after the band decided they needed new material whilst on tour. The album retains a lot of their original sound whilst adding a few new elements and comes across quite poppy, there s plenty of cheesy lyrics in trademark outer space vocals to keep the old fans happy though. It also tries to incorporate a couple of more modern heavy dance beats in to certain tracks. The best track is definitely the song Funplex itself, which is manic and slightly paranoid... something about the mere name Taco Tikki Hut makes me laugh! A sample: Chandelabras in a ...
