If you asked me what things truly make me happy, one of the answers I would give you is: The Barenaked Ladies! Their music just has something so upbeat and energetic about it, that it cheers me up instantly. One of my favourite albums is “Gordon”. Many times have I taken the CD with me to work. Standing on the platform at a train station and playing these songs suddenly lifts me from my foul-spirited mood and makes me want to sing and dance. Nearly every song on this album is cheerful, and they few that are not have something else to say for themselves. 1. Hello City This song starts with a piano and saxophone melody, which gives the track a ... Read the complete review

Gordon is the debut album from the Barenaked Ladies, who have just released their fifth studio album 'Maroon'. Gordon is arguably the best of the Ladies' albums, and has the most wacky and fun songs that the Ladies' have become known for. Tracks such as 'Enid', 'Grade 9', and 'King of Bedside Manor'are prime examples of this. But don't write off the Barenaked Ladies as a 'fun' band - any of their fans know that the Ladies' are just as good at producing thought-provoking songs, and 'Gordon' is no exception. The Barenaked Ladies are probably the funniest, most innovative group of our time as they are purely there to make their fans smile and to have a good time. Believe me go and see these guys in concert and you will have the time of your life! They put all of their energy into Gordon, which is their happiest, funniest album to date. It reflects on comical times in school with 'Grade Nine' and 'Enid' and was the basis for 'Ladies anthems such as 'Brian Wilson' and 'If I had $1,000,000'. This album is so much fun and so catchy that you will never want to take it out of your CD player. ... Read the complete review

This is feelgood music. The overall feel is a cross between Housemartins and They Might Be Giants, with a bit of Crosby Stills Nash and Young thrown in ("Wrap your arms around me"). Then there's "Grade 9", with its weird mixture of rap and Coasters-style vocals, and the jazzy Manhattan Transfer-style "I love you". You'll either love it or find it irritating. With tracks like "Brian Wilson" they come into their own. This is my favourite of the bunch, with its catchy chorus, and it is representative of the Barenaked Ladies' own style I read that Brian Wilson himself performed the song in a recent US concert, - ...
