Advantages: An excellent album from beginning to end. Fun and wacky songs for those that like them, as well as the more seriously-themed tracks. Something for everyone.

Disadvantages: Some of the tracks such as 'New Kid On The Block' and 'Wrap your arms around me' sound merely 'great', rather than the Ladies' usual level of excellence.

Gordon is the debut album from the Barenaked Ladies, who have just released their fifth studio album 'Maroon'. Gordon is arguably the best of the Ladies' albums, and has the most wacky and fun songs that the Ladies' have become known for. Tracks such as 'Enid', 'Grade 9', and 'King of Bedside Manor'are prime examples of this.

But don't write off the Barenaked Ladies as a 'fun' band - any of their fans know that the Ladies' are just as good at producing thought-provoking songs, and 'Gordon' is no exception. Songs about abusive relationships ('The Flag') and expectations of people that they are obliged to live up to ('What A Good Boy') are liberally sprinkled through this album, as well.

In essence, this album is perfect. It has a mix of single-worthy tracks such as 'Brian Wilson' and 'If I Had $1000000', tracks full of energy and fun such as 'I Love You' and the previously mentioned 'Enid', and serious songs that will make you think. Pick up 'Gordon' and you will experience the Barenaked Ladies at their unbridled best, and before they changed to the more commercial sounding band they are today. Highly recommended.
