Advantages: Very upbeat

Disadvantages: Too wacky for some

This is feelgood music. The overall feel is a cross between Housemartins and They Might Be Giants, with a bit of Crosby Stills Nash and Young thrown in ("Wrap your arms around me"). Then there's "Grade 9", with its weird mixture of rap and Coasters-style vocals, and the jazzy Manhattan Transfer-style "I love you". You'll either love it or find it irritating.
With tracks like "Brian Wilson" they come into their own. This is my favourite of the bunch, with its catchy chorus, and it is representative of the Barenaked Ladies' own style I read that Brian Wilson himself performed the song in a recent US concert, - there could be no finer tribute.
Other standouts are "What a good boy", "If I had $100000", the moving "The Flag", and "New kid (on the block)", an entertaining comment on teen bands.
If you think the Barenaked Ladies might be your cup of tea, this is one if their best albums.
