After the nightmarish, crawling doom of their previous album 'Lost Paradise', Yorkshire metal band Paradise Lost were to begin their travels into more accessable territory with their second full-length, 'Gothic', released back in 1991. The album is still very dark and utterly depressing, but the raw sludginess of the previous album is here accentuated with more rocky song-structures, with a Sisters of Mercy gothic rock feel creeping into the background and the songs accentuated by some drawn-out and despondent melodic soloing and the occasional stark gothic female background singing appearing here and there.
