Advantages: Mostly great songs, Performed well
Disadvantages: Some boring songs
The movie Grease 2 wasn’t as good as Grease, and the soundtrack for Grease 2 isn’t as good either! It’s also a lot shorter. This album has only half the amount of songs that the Grease album has – 12. They’re also very varied. Most are great – really catchy and genuinely good songs. Others are so boring it’s almost unbelievable! The first song is “Back to School Again”, performed by the Four Tops. I like this song, it’s pretty catchy. I won’t be able to stop myself singing it when I have to go back to school, though, and I’ll drive everybody mad, so that’s not so good! The next is “Cool Rider”, sung by Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays Stephanie in the film. She is actually a pretty good singer! I didn’t expect her to be, somehow. And Cool Rider is another great, catchy, song. The third song on the album is one of my favourites – “Score Tonight”, sung by all the cast but particularly Adrian Zmed (Johnny). It’s very, very catchy. It almost gets annoying, but not quite! My favourite bit is where Johnny screams like a girl. It’s funny - in a scary sort of way. “Girl for All Seasons” is next. It’s not a bad song – it’s just not a particularly good song, either! It’s okay. And catchy in an annoying sort of way! The fifth song is “Do It For Our Country” sung by Peter Frenchette, who plays Louis. It’s quite a good song, actually! And it’s sung well, too. “Who’s That Guy?” is next. It’s not too bad – and it has the line ‘Who’s that guy/The man on the cycle/What would they say if they knew it was Michael’ which everyone seems to find very funny! (I prefer my sister's version - 'Who's that guy/the man who's a psycho/what would...' - better personally!) The next song
is “Prowlin’” performed by Adrian Zmed and the other 3 T Birds. I really like this song! “Reproduction” is next, sung by the whole cast. Despite the fact that it’s totally daft, it’s a really good, catchy song! I especially like the bit where Goose goes ‘Where does the pollen go?’ It makes me laugh. Yes, I have a strange sense of humour. So far the songs have been pretty good, but now “Charades” has to go and spoil it all. I hate this song. Hate it! Apart from being so, so boring, it’s sung by Maxwell Caulfield (Michael) who I find really annoying. The next song is very boring and sung by Maxwell Caulfield (and Michelle Pfeiffer) too. It’s called “(Love Will) Turn Back the Hands of Time”. Definitely one to miss! The eleventh song “Rock-A-Hula-Luau (Summer Is Coming)” is sung by the entire cast. It isn’t really boring, but it is very cheesy. Not cheesy-funny. Just cheesy-annoying. And the last song is “We’ll be Together”. I think a cheery upbeat one would have been better to finish off the album, but “We’ll be Together” is neither. It’s slow and boring. And the lyrics are cheesy! E.g. – ‘We’ll be together/always together/like birds of a feather/forever and ever’. Uurgh. So that is the soundtrack for Grease 2! There are some songs that feature in the movie that are missing though – like “Sandman” which the Preptones sing, and “Brad” which the twins sing. I think they should be on the album too! They’re really good! (Well, I think so.) Also, the songs in Grease 2 have very little to do with the movie's plot, unlike the ones from Grease. Take "Summer Nights", from Grease, for example. It tells you a lot about Sandy and Danny - how they met, what their personalities are like, even how o
ld they are. What does "Score Tonight" tell you about the characters in Grease 2? Er...they like bowling?! Overall, I would recommend this album, because even though some of the songs are awful, some are great! It’s performed well, too. It’s not nearly as good or as long as the Grease soundtrack, but it’s still good!
