Advantages: Great Anthems, No Fillers
Disadvantages: None
Greatest Hits Vol.2 by Queen was compiled and released in 1991 to showcase all of the band's greatest hits from 1981 to 1991 in one place. A great buy for fans and newbies alike I think. What's especially great about the greatest hits albums is that they're a brilliant way to introduce new fans to older music.
Of the three greatest hits albums, this is the rockier number. The 80s were a big time for stadium rock on the rock and roll front and the band embraced that full whack with many of the songs included on this compilation album. A good deal of these songs are well known anthems that have been appealing to fans for many generations. Anthems include "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want to Break Free" and "The Show Must Go On", three of my personal favourites.
I'm also a fan of "Headlong" for it's great solid beat and "Breakthru" for it's raw energy and original lyrics. The only one I don't really like is "Who Wants to Live Forever" which is sung by Brian May (the lead guitarist). I do like May and think he's an awesome guitarist but as a singer he's really not so great. He can hold a tune but he's got a very mousey voice which alongside this already quite slow paced and boring song doesn't make for much of a hit in my mind.
Overall this is a real sing along album though and one that will get most rockers up on the dance floor at parties. I think this is one that will appeal to younger generations too because it's all about energy and melody rather than containing any particularly dated lyrics or concepts etc.
