With the success of the two Greatest hits albums by Queen, it was inevitable that after Freddie Mercury’s death, there would be a third Greatest hits album. Queen have literally hundreds of great tracks that could be combined into several albums, so it is difficult to collate a greatest hits album. Finally the album came out, and rather than just being a re-mastering of the original hits, the album became more of a tribute album to Freddie featuring several songs from the tribute concert. In a unique twist the band collated several songs from the tribut concert and added several other 'mixed' songs to make this an interesting album. There ... Read the complete review

Greatest Hits Vol.3 by Queen is the weakest of the three Greatest Hits albums from Queen but still worth owning if you're a real fan. I suppose the biggest problem they faced in compiling this was dealing with the absence of Freddie Mercury (the lead singer who died of Aids in 1991). This album wasn't released until 1999 so there were only a certain number of Freddie Mercury songs that could be included as many had already been included on previous compilations. To fill the gaps, a lot of the songs on this album are either solo projects by Freddie or Brian (neither of which I'm big fans of as solo artists) or they're live performances from the Freddie ... I'm writing this opinion with and for my (now 21 year old) son (we originally wrote this when he was 17 and posted it on Ciao). When Queen first appeared, I personally wasn't their biggest fan, but the truth is, they seem to grow on you. So, I had no problem with purchasing this third Greatest Hits album for my son (knowing full well that short of leaving the house, I'd have to hear it at one time or another). I was pleasantly surprised at this album. But this isn't my review - it's my sons. So here we go: "I know Queen and have always thought they were a good group and could make a good album - even after the death of Freddy Mercury. Even though I have ... Read the complete review

queen greatest hits 3 is not quite a true title, as some a lot of these weren't hits also some were freddy mercury solo efforts and not queen. After mercury's death in the 90's they released this a cash in some might say or a representaion of their final work, maybe to tie up loose ends. Queen were one of the biggest bands on the planet in the 80's and still early 90's before mercurys death from aids. They released two greatest hits albums , the first one is great and includes all the early classics like bohemian ryhspody and we will rock you etc, The second greatest hits album included the 80's hits of , a kind of magic, under pressure and i want to ... "Queen-Greatest Hits 3" was the first CD that I bought of Queen at the ripe old age of 12. I'd heard "Greatest Hits 1" courtesy of my brother and his records, and loved it. Thus started my obsession with this phenomenal band. This CD remains today one of my favourite CD's of all time. I wouldn't say that it is pure Queen. There are a lot of collaborations on this CD, from "Under Pressure" with David Bowie, to "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John, and George Michael singing "Somebody To Love" at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert (a phenomenal performance), so come to think of it, not too many of the songs on ...
