Advantages: All great songs, members of Queen solo work
Disadvantages: A lot of collaborations, more ballad-type songs than pure rock
"Queen-Greatest Hits 3" was the first CD that I bought of Queen at the ripe old age of 12. I'd heard "Greatest Hits 1" courtesy of my brother and his records, and loved it. Thus started my obsession with this phenomenal band. This CD remains today one of my favourite CD's of all time.
I wouldn't say that it is pure Queen. There are a lot of collaborations on this CD, from "Under Pressure" with David Bowie, to "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John, and George Michael singing "Somebody To Love" at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert (a phenomenal performance), so come to think of it, not too many of the songs on this CD are all Queen.
You've also got Freddie's collaboration with Opera singer Montserrat Caballé, and Freddie's solo "Living On My Own" (one of my favourites of Freddie's solo) and the cover of The Platters- "The Great Pretender". There is also Brian May solo-"Driven By You" and a very moving and emotional song "No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young)" performed by the remaining members of Queen after Freddie's death.
"Another One Bites The Dust" on this CD was a collaboration with Wyclef Jean, and sometimes I like to listen to it, but at other times it gets a bit tedious and I just want to listen to the original.
My personal favourites on this CD have to be "Under Pressure", "Heaven For Everyone" and "You Don't Fool Me".
My least favourite's if I HAVE to pick would be "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Prince's Of The Universe" (taken from the film "The Highlander") although I still do like these songs, they are just not my favourites.
I would say that this Greatest Hits has a lot more ballad-type songs on it than the previous two greatest hits (I own the box set of 1, 2 and 3) and so I think for me, I slightly prefer it to the other two.
Overall I would give this four stars, I love this CD, however I feel that rock fans will be left slightly dissapointed as the CD isn't typical of Queen's rock sound. The amount of collaborations on the CD might be a bit of a let down too for some people.
Overall, it's still a great CD to relax to, and is very nostalgic for me, a must-have for any Queen fan, or anybody for that matter! Highly recommended.
Summary: A great CD showcasing the bands phenomenal talent, 4/5 stars!
