BONEY M GOLD was release in February of 1999 was release in Germany and then by Tower Records in the UK. Frank Farian Produced it. I'm sure that Frank Farian didn't know when he recorded , (under the pseudonym of Boney M.),"Baby Do You Wanna Bump" that this song would make him so famous. The success of this song People who wanted to see what the Group Boney M. looked like. They appeared on Television and preformed live at least five times. I think the songs of BONEY M will always be magical. I can't believe that it has been at least 25 years since they recorded their first Album. The Album "Boney M GOLD" shows the talent of the Boney M Group. This is a collection of 20 of their top songs. Each song will show you why this Group once was the favourite of so many People. THE SONGS: Rivers of Babylon: "By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down ye-eah we wept, when we remembered Zion. When the wicked Carried us away in captivity Required from us a song Now how shall we sing the lord's song in a strange land..." Daddy Cool: "She's crazy like a fool What about it Daddy Cool She's crazy like a fool What about it Daddy Cool I'm crazy like a fool What about it Daddy Cool..." Sunny Brown Girl in the Ring: "Brown Girl in the Ring, Tra la la la, Brown Girl in the Ring Show me a motion..." Rasputin: "There lived a certain man in Russia long ago He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow Most people looked at him with terror and with fear But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear He could preach the bible like a preacher Full of ecstasy and fire But he also was the kind of tea
cher Women would desire...." Ma Baker Hooray Hooray Painter Man Belfast No Woman No Cry Mary?s Boy Child & Oh My Lord Gotta Go Home Still I?m sad Nightflight to Venus Felicidad El Lute Baby Do you wanna Bump Kalimba De Luna Happy Song The Mega Mix: "By The Rivers of Babylon","Sunny", "Daddy Cool", "Ma Bake" and "Rasputin". MY REVIEW: These 20 songs are all wonderful. Boney M's "Rivers Of Babylon","Brown Girl In The Ring" and "Mary's Boy Child were among the 100 best selling singles in the Top 10 list. The songs like Rivers of Babylon and Mary?s Boy Child strike you for their use of vocals. Rasputin, El Lute and Ma Baker moved me because the lyrics are based on real stories. The songs like Nightflight to Venus and Belfast strike you for their different kind of sounds. Hooray Hooray and Brown Girl are simple and sad. The voice of Liz Mitchell will thrill you and endear you. You will feel her voice echoing through your bones. Their Music introduced the various "Reggie", (the music of the Caribbean), beats to the World. The bass line is strong but not loud. You hear the strings section throughout the songs and they enhance the beautiful music. THE GROUP: "A German Record Producer, Frank Farian needed a back-up Group for a single record called "'Baby Do You Wanna Bump?", (1947). He created Boney M to support the song. He brought in Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell,(4 West Indian singers),who had been working in Germany. By 1975 Dutch Disco's and TV Stations wanted Boney M to appear live. Katja Wolf was the Agent who brought Maizie Williams, Sheila Bonnick, Nathalie and
Mike, (the last two only used their first names). The Group has had a number of changes with their singers but today the Boney M singers are Marcia Barrett,(from Hamburg, Germany) Liz Mitchell, (from Jamaica), Maizie Williams, (from Jamaica) and Bobby Farrell, (from Aruba in the West Indies)." If you have never heard of them this Collection is a good place to hear the talent of this Group. I loved every song on this Album. As I am typing this I can see them in their Satin Costumes. The Ladies some times they were trimmed in Fur. Bobby Farrell often wore a "bib style" Costume with no Shirt under it. They all wore their hair if "Afro Styles". When I played their songs I tried to do the dance routines that I had seen on TV. Had it really ended? Does good music die? I don?t think so! The Boney M songs still create their magical trance whenever I hear them, even in 2003, twenty five years after they first took the world by storm. If you don't own it yet what are you waiting for. Get your money and rush down to the nearest Record Store! I paid $20.00 CAD for this Album. UPC: 743211257725 Comments are always welcome and ratings don't matter. - 19/03/03 Sorry, I couldn't quite give this a VU, these songs are very memorable, but I somehow feel that (if I was ten years younger) I might not quite be able to visualise quite how they sound. Thanks! |
